83rd Academy Awards - JXM Picks the Winners

Best Picture
127 Hours
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
The Social Network
Toy Story 3
True Grit
Winter's Bone

JXM Picks: The Social Network
Once the frontrunner as a Best Picture winner of the awards season, The Social Network quickly lost its hold on the little golden man as the SAG and BAFTAs rolled around. The King's Speech gained speed over The Social Network and is currently favoured by critics alike as 'likely to win,' but we're holding strong on this one.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Javier Bardem - Biutiful
Jeff Bridges - True Grit
Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network
Colin Firth - The King's Speech
James Franco - 127 Hours

JXM Picks: Colin Firth
For many of the same reasons why the critics have chosen The King's Speech as the Best Picture winner, Firth is more than likely to take this one with his seamless stuttering king.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role
Annette Bening - The Kids Are All Right
Nicole Kidman - Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence - Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Michelle Williams - Blue Valentine

JXM Picks: Natalie Portman
Its Portman's year this year. On top of that, Black Swan is unlikely to be rewarded in any other category so this is where we believe Darren Arronofsky's ballet thriller will be recognized. There are murmurs of Michelle Williams scooping up the statue but we don't think her performance was strong enough to take this one.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role
Christian Bale - The Fighter
John Hawkes - Winter's Bone
Jeremy Renner - The Town
Mark Ruffalo - The Kids Are All Right
Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

JXM Picks: Christian Bale
Hands down.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role
Amy Adams - The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech
Melissa Leo - The Fighter
Hailee Steinfeld - True Grit
Jacki Weaver - Animal Kingdom

JXM Picks: Melissa Leo
We're kind of going against the grain on this one. Critics' consensus is giving this one to the little Canuck Hailee Steinfeld for her scene stealing performance, but is it her time?

Best Director
Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan
Ethan Coen, Joel Coen - True Grit
David Fincher - The Social Network
Tom Hooper - The King's Speech
David O. Russell - The Fighter

JXM Picks: David Fincher
Thoguh often at the Oscars, the Best Director and Best Picture go hand in hand, but this year it may be split (we did say that The King's Speech was the frontrunner).

Best Original Screenplay
Mike Leigh - Another Year
Scott Silver, Paul Tamasy, Eric Johnson, Keith Dorrington - The Fighter
Christopher Nolan - Inception
Lisa Cholodenko, Stuart Blumberg - The Kids Are All Right
David Seidler - The King's Speech

JXM Picks: The King's Speech
If its going to sweep every other category, why not this one?

Best Adapted Screenplay
Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy - 127 Hours
Aaron Sorkin - The Social Network
Michael Arndt, John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Lee Unkrich - Toy Story 3
Ethan Coen, Joel Coen - True Grit
Debra Granik, Anne Rosellini - Winter's Bone

JXM Picks: The Social Network
This is the only category where both The Social Network and The King's Speech can be equally awarded.

Best Animated Feature Film
How To Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist
Toy Story 3

JXM Picks: Toy Story 3
Because we'll never revisit these toys again, its their time.

Best Foreign Language Film
Biutiful
Dogtooth
In A Better World
Incendies
Outside the Law

JXM Picks: In A Better World
