@ NXNE: In Flight Safety

By Kate Xian

JXM favourites and Halifax natives, In Flight Safety took the stage at Yonge and Dundas Square for the ongoing five day North by Northeast music and film festival. As public forums always draw a diverse crowd, pulling in whatever passer bys happen to be in the vicinity, In Flight was able to bring in new fans – and kept them there.

Looking around, no one had really heard of this alternative rock band that has enticed everyone to bob their head and tap their feet to their tunes. “Who are these guys? They’re great,” I heard someone say behind me. Their forty-minute set surprised many but there were small pockets of people who knew all the lyrics by heart and wanted to expose their friends to the easygoing rock that is In Flight Safety.

“They’re like Coldplay!” someone else exclaims. The excitement for this band is spreading like wildfire. Rocking tracks off their new album We Are An Empire, My Dear like Cloudhead and Model Homes its no wonder these guys gained fans in less than an hour.

The North by Northeast mission to spread great new music more than successful with the Yonge and Dundas venue, and In Flight is just one band of the 500 bands participating in this year’s festival.
